CAN THE WEB HELP YOU GET INTO COLLEGE?
COLLEGE DORMS OFTEN seem full of software savy students trying to write a killer app. But first they have to write a different kind of hot application-one that gets them past the admissions office. Now a band of ex-Ivy Leaguers says the Web can help.
MyEssay.com targets high schoolers who are aiming at top colleges, offering help from former admissions officers who critique application essays. For $12.95, the site sells a kit on how to write you own killer application. Personalized coaching for undergraduate and MBA applicants costs $99.95, company president and 1996 Yale University grad Vedant K. Mimani says. Sample essays and other content are free.
Mimani says the site sells about 500 kits a month during peak season. MBA seekers are the big users of personalized coaching. "They do a cost-benefit analysis," Mimani said.
